Bucks are intact male goats, capable of breeding. Wethers are bucklings who were castrated as kids.
Our six wethers are big, sweet, boys who can be shorn for fiber as well as providing companionship for the bucks.
The two bucks are the youngest goats in our herd, but are already showing a lot of interest in the girls! They are permanently registered with the Pygora Breeders Association. Their fleece types, shown below, are explained in detail on the Pygora Goats page. Since urinating on themselves is one way a buck attracts the does, their fiber may be shorn for their comfort, but it is discarded.
OUR HERD SIRES
BLACK JACK OREO
BJ was born at Hollyhock Hollow, bred by Jill Gallagher. He is permanently registered with the PBA and his fleece has been classified as a Light Caramel "B".
BJ is very brave and very friendly. He loves to have his head scratched and he LOVES to eat!
COGNAC
Cognac comes from Hawks Mountain Ranch, bred by Lisa Roskopf. His sire is Windshadows Duncan, a very handsome and stately buck. I love the look and color of Duncan's fiber, so we requested one of his bucklings for a herd sire.
Meet Cognac. Isn't he handsome? He is permanently registered with the PBA and his fleece has been classified as a Light Brown "C".
THE WETHERS
Twins, Abbott & Costello. They are usually together, Costello more the leader, Abbott dependent on his brother.
Robyn of Sage the biggest and sweetest of them all
